Staging directors Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser infuse German composer Engelbert Humperdinck's fairy-tale opera with more than a dollop of black humor in this 2008 London performance that's both enchanting and menacing. Angelika Kirchschlager and Diana Damrau play Hansel and Gretel, respectively, and beloved British baritone Thomas Allen portrays their father in an outstanding production led by maestro Colin Davis.

This fact-based prison drama tells the tale of a band of prisoners living in the innovative 2,600-acre prison at Chino, California. Peter Vidar works in a bar in Eau Claire, Wisconsin until his life is thrown into turmoil by unsettling dreams and a one-handed man named 'Terry'. He quickly becomes embroiled in a war between Norse Gods culminating the potential release of Fenris, should Fenris be awakened it will mean the death of all humankind. Luckily, Vidar met Terry, who it just so happens is the God Tyr - the jailer of Fenris.
